Agile at Scale
Recently had an interesting conversation (a healthy debate) with one of the Business groups on a topic - Agile at scale
Why there is a hesitation in implementing Agile at scale?? I absolutely agree with the amount of risk when it comes to scaling-up and complexity of an action. However, this is what actual being agile is. Be innovative, be creative; implement new ideas instead going with a traditional approach. Though there is a risk there is huge benefit as well, and risk mitigation is not an impossible task in this case. Let’s look in detail,
What is the risk and possible mitigation?
- Huge investment, so definitely outcome is a critical success factor. Regardless of the type of Investment, there will always be some risk involved. Agile helps in better way to deal with the risk (See the benefits mentioned below)
- with big and complex programs/actions - change in approach might cause difference in opinion - selection of team is very important. Team with same mindset, ready for changes and can drive it with consistency
What are the benefits with agile approach?
- Better understanding on changing requirements due to improved ON time communication with right stakeholders
- ON Time actions with agreement, avoids last minute chaos (the way it happens with waterfall approach)
- Better collaboration
- Reduced Risk
- Improved efficiency and productivity
- Improved quality
- Less iterations so improved timelines
- Faster implementation of changes based on customer needs
- Cost benefits and the most important thing -> Customer satisfaction!!!
Being realistic is equally important. Take a step by step or a phase wise approach. implement it in one business group / unit, realize the benefits and then keep scaling up based on business requirements.
So, let's be agile and be efficient!!

4 年Agile has become reason to kick off the good managers just because they are not CSM. This is pity and fact. A CSM is integrated way of management and does not need so call certification if a person is enough capable of managing. I agree it is good as most of people have become managers in IT just for name sake and it defines neat process to them to work closely with team and day to day work but on other hand not being CSM is misused.

Nice article , totally agree agile is the way forward ,? the deprecated methodologies of working in silos are no longer effective especially when we think about CI /CD pipeline .
