Agile and Neuroscience

Neuroscientist & creator of PEPE? Model: Change Management. Leadership, ‘Sparkling Performance’ Founder.
Latest brain scanner technology (fMRI) and new developments in the field of neuroscience are for the first time ever starting to provide an understanding of the brain, in real time and in action.
Applied neuroscience is an emerging discipline and an area of research within the fields of leadership and personal development, performance and change management . In the case of change management the last 8 years lot of research have been demonstrating and supporting Agile methodologies as one of the most "brain friendly practises" to be adopted by businesses.
During the lockdown I had the pleasure to join a team of experts in the field of Agile methodologies ( @Justin Ryan, @Erika Barden and @Pranab Ghosh) to record a series of videos in Agile mindset in Financial Services, including one episode dedicated to "Agile and the brain" where we share facts about the brain and how our brain chemistry behave during an agile implementation vs other methodologies like waterfall.
One of the most interesting facts we have found in brain research is that the human brain is hard-wired to deal really well with "peaks and downs" during small cycles and the more we can adopt behaviours in our life and businesses that support a cycle of high levels of dopamine, adrenaline, oxytocin and others neurotransmitters followed by a period of low levels of the same neurotransmitters, the most chances we got to adapt and to accept changes maintaining higher levels of well being.
Agile methodologies and what we called "agile iteration" ( short 1 to 2 weeks period where a team build a completely running tested-software) is one of the most efficient methodologies that allow the brain to complete a full "peaks and lows" cycle.
If you would like to hear more details about how Agile mindset and agile methodologies support brain friendly practises, I invite you to listen this short 25min video "Agile and the brain"
Feel free to also contact me directly if you would be keen to train your team or consultants in latest brain research and applied neuroscience. Tibisay Vera [email protected]

4 年I knew it! Finally someone has put in words what I've been thinking for years. Agile and neuroscience helped with my anxiety and panic attacks when I first started working. I've been trying to spread the message through my training and coaching ever since but wasn't sure about the connection. Thank you for sharing this!
