The Agile Maturity Curve

Agile is first a leadership mindset, that shapes the organizational culture, leading to adoption of agile methodology, using specific agile framework(s).

Agile requires the team to build deep trust (mutual appreciation of competency and commitment, team reliability, "we" approach, no blame-game), effectively communicate (responsible, clear and concise messaging), practice constructive disagreement (be respectful, be eager to reach best-suited conclusions, avoid fake harmony), respond rapidly to change (stay alert and flexible, have a bias to action), encourage experimentation and measured risk taking (embrace failure, continuous learning), remain mutually accountable (deliver and expect commitments, productivity and quality), and stay outcome focused (always keep goal in sight, be clinical, avoid overemphasis on process/ activities).

Agile is not suitable for every organization, or every leader, or every part of the organization, or every type of project, or every situation. Try and decide for yourself, or choose wisely!

Well said Shailendra! Too often organisation “Go Agile” and try to embrace the processes (what) and tools (how) without understanding the principles (why). Like it says on one of my daughters t-shirts “mindset is everything” ??

Super, good article. My two cents... Agile mindset, sets the agility in the team and probably in the organization who need to rediscover or disrupt the space!
