Agile, Lean & DevOps - No pragmatic blending, No transformation at scale

It is no exaggeration to say that Agile way of working, Lean thinking and DevOps movement are all driving people and companies across the world crazy. A few of the organizations have seen partial success with their blending. But majority of them are either trying to control the chaos that was created/exposed or going mad with the messiahs claiming to deliver magic.

As a by-product, I’m seeing a new trend in the people of agile community and I would probably name it as RDD - Resume Driven Development (heard this term recently by a technologist expressing her worry on the mad rush towards tools).

I'm speaking in ScrumBengaluru meetup this Saturday, 11th Jun on this topic. In the talk, I would be sharing a few anti-patterns - that is, ineffective attempts to combine the trio (Agile, Lean and DevOps), made carelessly during org-wide transformation initiatives. In addition, I would also suggest a few pragmatic tips for reaping the real benefits that trio can offer, when the combination is driven by their values and principles.

A few of the anti-patterns (of blending of Agile, Lean & DevOps during large-scale transformation) I plan to cover include

1. Illusionary Pipeline (with no continuous feedback hooks and/or no business drivers)
2. Septic Pipeline (with low quality tests and/or junk flowing)
3. Mega Transformation Mania (with endless tools and scaling frameworks)

A few of the pragmatic tips for effective transformation I plan to suggest include

1.Creating and nurturing Agile, DevOps & Engineering culture with Execution Agility
2. Guiding the transformation with Lean thinking and its principles
3. Applying antiseptic to the CD pipeline with XP practices

Thanks for the wonderful talk in today's Scrum Bangalore meet, Jayaprakash. It was wonderful.
