Agile equation
Context
I was watching a TED presentation: “A new Equation for Intelligence”. When I read the title I was immediately excited since the discoveries in this field are usually very interesting.
Intelligence is such a complex subject so why can’t I think about an equation for Agile? By the way, the presented formula for intelligence is:
F = T ? Sτ
where,
F is the force
T is a system temperature
Sτ is the entropy field of all states reachable in the time horizon τ (tau).
? is the del operator (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del).
Agile Formula
So... I accepted the challenge and tried to create my own Agile equation:
A= (Au*Ma*Pu) / (ΣW+ΣC)
where,
A is the Agile power
Au is Autonomy
Ma is Mastery
Pu is Purpose
W is Waste
C is Constraint
I would like to use the Del operator so that I could look smarter :). But it would just add unnecessary complexity and we have traditional managers already doing it for us ;).
Conclusion
This type of formulas doesn’t really have any kind of practical application. However, I think it is a good exercise to be done since each one of us will define a different formula. The formula won’t solve anything but it will highlight the main points you should focus when being Agile.
You can use this as a game and play it with your team. Everyone has a different perspective, so achieving a common formula can be a good gamification activity.
