Welcome to the January edition of Agency Life, the monthly newsletter that takes you behind the scenes of life at brandformula. Feeling rejuvenated after a restful festive break, we kicked off 2025 as we mean to go on; with enthusiasm, creativity and fresh ideas.?
?? Engage
This January, we made a real effort not to get too bogged down with the January Blues. We started the month by reflecting on what we were looking forward to in the year ahead - both personally and professionally - in an effort to focus on the positive, which can be difficult at this time of year. We collected some of the team’s thoughts into a blog to help inspire others to do the same. Read the full blog here.?
Monday 20th January was ‘Blue Monday’, which is supposedly the most depressing day of the year. However, a little Google search revealed that this term was in fact coined as part of a marketing campaign by a British travel company around 20 years ago. Whilst we can’t help but admire this clever sales tactic (we do work in marketing after all), we refused to let an outdated sales pitch dictate our moods, and decided to put our own spin on the ‘worst day of the year’. We asked some of the team to reflect on what’s bringing them joy at the moment and write their thoughts on card to put up around the office as a reminder to keep smiling through January. See our LinkedIn post about it here.?
?? Inspire
As fresh thinking drives everything we do at brandformula, we’ve reimagined one of our newsletters, swapping out 'Throwback Thursday' for a brand new feature: 'brand matters’. In this new monthly thought piece, our Creative Services Director Nick Patchitt will bring you thoughts, observations and opinions on all things brand-related. In the debut edition, Nick poses the question, ‘what is a brand?’, and dissects the true meaning of the concept, going beyond the logo. Read the January newsletter here and stay tuned for next month’s edition!
It was a busy month of writing for the creative team, with Creative Director Owen Moralee also publishing a piece about his thoughts on trends. As someone who dreads the word ‘trends’, this was an interesting blog for Owen. Instead of writing a classic trends prediction piece, he put his own spin on the concept and focused on areas he believes will be impactful over the next year. Read the full blog here.

?? Thrive
We have another exciting promotion to announce this month! As a result of her impressive growth and performance, Lucy Doody has been promoted to Account Manager – Experiential. This change builds on the key move in our growth plans as we redefine the Events team as our Experiential department and reflects Lucy’s contribution to the business. Congratulations, Lucy!?
Business Development Director Rob Hughes represented brandformula at Insuretech Connect London, a brand-new event focused on discovering how insurance technology can revolutionise the London insurance market. He had a busy few days discussing how brands can amplify their voices in a busy insurtech ecosystem, something we excel in at brandformula thanks to our unique mix of creatives and insurance industry professionals.?
The team abroad ??
Whilst January was a month of preparation for the year ahead, with the team predominantly busy in London, we’re now ready for our first event of the 2025! We’ll be heading to Deauville to support clients at AMRAE this week, where we’re looking forward to promoting their brands in unique ways in order to engage, inform and connect with their audiences. As always, make sure to say hello if you spot any of the brandformula team at the event.?
January was a month of prioritising mental well-being, channeling creativity, and planning ahead. Look out for February’s edition of Agency Life to find out how we get on next month!?
