Hi there, the AI craziness, positive and negative, continues with so many new announcements and tools this week that I won’t bore you with them (even though I find them super-exciting and can’t wait for the weekend to play a bit with them).
Let’s focus on your health & longevity with plenty of research, news, and tips.
Your Brain Cells Don’t Age …
… but your blood vessels do.
According to Dr. Amen’s latest book, Change Your Brain Every Day (which I highly recommend), your brain’s #aging comes primarily from your aging blood vessels.
As they deteriorate, so does the blood flow in your brain … and with that the nutrients your brain gets.
As you can imagine, this leads to all sorts of issues, from ‘simple’ brain fog to memory issues, depression, suicidal thoughts, schizophrenia, ADD/ #ADHD, hoarding, seizures, and Alzheimer’s (source).
So, what can you do?
Make sure to increase your blood flow by doing the following things:
Improve Your Memory & Reduce the Chances of Getting Alzheimer’s …
… by adding lion’s mane mushroom extracts to your diet.
It has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese Medicine … and has finally also been shown to work in science … at least in mice (study).
You can buy many lion’s mane extracts, and some are better than others. It does have quite an earthy taste, not everybody’s cup of tea.
I personally use Collagenius from BioOptimizers as they’ve managed to have an incredibly high concentration of lion’s mane in their product … equal to 200 grams (!) of ground mushroom (in addition to other great mushrooms that are good for your brain and collagen). I’m not the biggest fan of the stevia they added, but I know many people love it. … By the way, I have an account with them, and if you use the code JEUNESSIMA, you get 10% off ??.
Reset Your Circadian Rhythm in Perimenopause & Menopause …
… ?Did you know that your estrogen levels play a key role in your circadian rhythm?
Seeing that with #perimenopause & #menopause, your estrogen levels change significantly, it’s not surprising that for many women their circadian rhythm and, with it, many other systems in the body are out of whack … leading to plenty of undesirable effects, including many age-related diseases.
Read the abstract of award-winning nutritionist Christine Bailey’s article from Jeunessima Magazine 26.
Crucial for women, oestrogen plays a key role in maintaining your circadian rhythm.
When you lose ovarian oestrogen, levels decline throughout your body, including the brain, which in turn impacts the function of the master clock.
The master clock in the hypothalamus is the primary driver of your circadian rhythm. It controls all the clock genes in your body, and oestrogen helps maintain this master clock.
Fasting & Diet
There are many ways you can use to reset your circadian rhythm.

Diet and timing of eating play a key role.
For example, your gut microbiome has its own clock and can be influenced by the timing of eating and fasting and by what you eat.
This is why we often recommend time-restricted eating in our menopause programmes. It is also why periodic fasting, like the fasting-mimicking #diet, can be so beneficial.
A periodic fast lasting for a few days improves your metabolic health. It may improve your blood sugar control, lower hypertension, improve cognition, and lower inflammation too.
As the gut microbiome plays a role in your circadian rhythm, make sure you get plenty of the beneficial prebiotic and probiotic foods.
In fact, if you put more focus on plants in your diet, you will ensure that you get plenty of fibre to support your gut health and plant compounds, including sulforaphane, to support healthy hormone detoxification.
Other dietary components can help you during the transition too …
