Ageless Lifestyle Tips 283 for Busy Women. Vibrant Health. Peak Performance. Age Reversal & Longevity

Hi there, this weekend from St Tropez, where I meet my good friend Tina Prodnik again & we chat about the latest tips & tools for health & longevity in her Vibrant Longevity group on Facebook.

Here are your weekly lifestyle tips & ideas on how you can enjoy your body, life, and business (more) … every single day … at any age.

Build Your Brain Capital for Later Life …

… As we move more and more into a ‘brain economy’ (a term used by Walter D. Dawson, DPhil, senior fellow at the Global Brain Health Institute, to talk about the knowledge economy), prioritizing your brain as much as possible should be on the top of your health & longevity ‘to do’ list (article).

That includes “mental health, brain health, education, diversity, and positive psychology — including resilience, wisdom, and creativity.”

This is 100% in line with what I’ve shared previously about keeping your biological age low while boosting your wisdom age, being resilient in body, mind & spirit, and keeping child-like curiosity.

So, what can you do right now?

Don’t try to do too many things at once. That’s a recipe for giving up sooner than later.

You want to focus on one thing and add on over time.

Here are some ideas for you to get started …

·?????Exercise. Among other things, it helps to improve your neuroplasticity, your brain’s ability to change and adapt as you create & change neural and blood pathways. This is particularly important for leaders & entrepreneurs who want to keep their brain’s ‘executive function’, including planning, problem-solving, and multitasking, working well

·?????Connect with people. People with a great social network who connect daily have more gray matter and a lower risk of developing dementia (study)

·?????Stimulate your brain while also giving it adequate rest to digest, repair, and rewire. Being engaged in your business is one way of keeping your brain active, but you also want to do things that are different … on a regular basis. Brush your teeth with the hand you usually don’t use, learn something new that is not related to your work, listen to music in a different way than usual, play computer games (I know that this might be a bit unusual, but research shows that it is good for keeping your brain sharp and agile as you age). And don’t forget to rest a little while right after learning something new. It’ll help you to memorize better what you’ve learned

·?????Get good sleep. This is crucial as poor sleep & sleeping less than 6 hours are related to accelerated brain aging. And don’t forget that your brain can only cleanse itself (your glymphatic system) during sleep, particularly during deep sleep (which tends to deteriorate as you age, so it’s even more important to pay attention to it)

·?????Eat a wide variety of foods to get plenty of nutrients that will not only keep you generally healthy but also support your brain health. Limit or avoid sugary & highly processed foods

·?????Hydrate your body … and mind. While the research is inconclusive, it seems to suggest that regular hydration is more important … more so for women than men. When you’re younger, dehydration seems to primarily impact your energy & mood, but if you’re continuously dehydrated as you age, this can affect your cognitive performance and increase the chances of suffering from brain diseases, including Alzheimer’s

Are you doing all these things already? Don’t worry, we’re publishing a Jeunessima Magazine issue focused on brain health & longevity later this year … with many more tips that will give you an extra boost.

Start Donating Blood … and Enjoy Younger-Looking Skin …

… Donating blood has many advantages … not only for the person whose life you might save … and the psychological benefit of you having done a good deed.

If you give blood regularly (in mice, it was every 2 weeks), those mice actually lost some body weight and fat.

And … their skin aging improved as inflammation, the number of senescent cells, iron deposits (something that is less of an issue for women as long as you menstruate) went down, and collagen production improved (study).

Is Keto Truly as Good as Many People Claim?

… KETO has been a big buzzword over the last years … and an opportunity for many women to lose that stubborn fat. But is it truly as good as many people claim?

Read an abstract from Keto. The Woman’s Holy Grail for Weight Loss & Health?, an article in Jeunessima Magazine 25.

Even though the keto diet … short for ketogenic diet …?has only become popular over the last years, it exists for a very long time already.

Fasting, which can be seen as a precursor to the ketogenic diet, has been used since a least 500 BC to treat epilepsy.

It took a few hundred years until 100 years ago, in 1921, two experts, Woodyatt and Dr. Wilder, realized that using a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet resulted in similar results as fasting helping children to deal with seizures … and it was easier to sustain.

But, as new drugs for treating epilepsy came on the market, the ketogenic diet was almost forgotten.

Over the last 15, 20 years, though, the keto diet raised its head again, biohackers started to adopt and love it. And it has now become one of the most well-known diets in the world.

What is Keto?

Let us look at what the ketogenic diet is.

You can describe keto as a diet high in fat and very low in carbohydrates, also known as "low-carb." Different from other low-carb diets, though, it focuses on moderate protein intake.

Eating a High-Fat Diet to Lose Body Fat?

It might sound a little strange: Eat more fat … to lose fat … but if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

Continue reading about the benefits of a keto diet in general and for women over 50 specifically in Jeunessima Magazine 25 (On your iPad. On your desktop). Find out how you can use it to get the most out of it for your health and longevity and how to avoid its dark side.

Cool Product Corner. Test Your Brain Performance …

… with OptiMind.

It’s an app (currently seemingly only for the iPhone) I’ve just discovered at Collision, a great event show-casing interesting start-ups.

As I’ve already been talking about keeping your brain healthy, this is a natural product to share with you. It can help you identify how well your brain performs and how this compares to your peers. … The first test is free, while further tests seem to require a monthly or yearly subscription based on customer feedback on the app store.

I had to download the app to try it out.

What does it do? … The app shows you … super briefly … images followed by other images. Some of those images shown first are of animals. And if it’s an animal, you’re supposed to click on the right of your screen and if not, on the left. You’ve got to do it very quickly.

I got a supposedly pretty good score for the first time even though it felt like those images passed far too quickly to recognize much at all and sometimes my finger just tapped on the wrong side even though I knew better ??

I guess that once you know how it works, it becomes easier.

In any case, it's an interesting app you can use every day. If you also give access to your lifestyle data, including, e.g., sleep, amount of coffee & water you drank, and your mood, … it'll show you what impacts your brain in which way. It's a great way to see what you can do to improve your brain.

I didn't realize Keto was used for helping with seizures. I did notice that when I eat keto, I do feel a lot calmer.
