Ageing IT

Ageing IT

With the rate of change in IT, your physical IT is ageing in Dog Years.

As you may be aware as your Dog gets older it needs to be taken to the vets more regularly, the same is true with older IT devices and more preventative work needs to be done.

We often see systems that have fallen behind, there are underlying risks that you need to be aware of.

If your systems are coming up to the 3-year mark and you haven't had them reviewed there is a high likelihood that the productivity of your staff is at risk and so is your data.

5 Signs that your IT devices are a lot older than you thought.

  • You are unable to update to the latest Operating System

In the last 5 years in general IT systems are continuously connected to the internet, this has meant a different approach to Operating System updates. Updates are now delivered in small packages but on a regular basis.

This is partly to do that customers wanting faster and safer operating systems, this pace is amazing but also hard to keep up with.

  • You're at the mercy of the hackers

An out-of-date Operating system is like gold dust to cybercriminals, they can use it to lock you out of your data and hold it to ransom or even steal it.

Operating Systems are updated to close security vulnerabilities that have been discovered by hackers and cybercriminals. You may say "we are too small for anyone to bother hacking us" but its a numbers game. Send 100,000 infected emails and 1% get through that's 1000 infected emails 1% get opened and we have 10 infected businesses.

The NHS was infected with WannaCry in 2017 as it was running an extremely old operating system. This led to thousands of appointments and operations being cancelled as the NHS struggles to unlock its IT systems.

  • Your system is buggy

A dog with fleas is irritable and acts out of sorts, an IT system with bugs is exactly the same. You will witness undesirable effects, applications won't function properly your system may slow down.

We look after many companies IT systems and ensure they are working optimally, we do this proactively as a Managed Service. We’re constantly monitoring systems, applying updates and responding to symptoms of problems before they become bigger issues.

  • Updated applications just won't run

When the latest updated applications just won't run you know that your IT setup is old. Most cloud applications will run perfectly well as they run in the browser, that is if you can run the latest browser. The apps that run on the computer itself can be the issue, especially the specialist apps.

  • Running out of memory

The most common reason for a slow computer is a lack of memory, as Operating Systems process more information at the same time the requirements for more memory increase.

If you are waiting for your computer to play catchup and that costs you 10mins a day, over the course of a year you have lost 40 hours of productivity!

We would love to speak to you about reviewing your IT systems.
