The Age of Minoritism

I learned a new word this weekend, minoritism which I guess in taught in Poly Sci classes, I was a History and Communication Studies Major ;-) Why is this word important? It is important for all to know because as Americans we live in a society that the minority controls the majority.

How?

• The last two republican presidents were elected losing the popular vote.
• Washington DC citizens have no representation in Congress nor a vote for President, yet Vermont and Wyoming are both smaller in citizenry.
• Puerto Rico would be larger than 20 states if granted statehood.
• Even more simple , if you consider research polls accurate, The majority of US citizens favor reasonable gun control legislation and affirm a woman's right to choose.

Hard Line Conservatives are supposed to be in favor of Individual Responsibility yet they want to tell every woman what to do with their bodies. They don't understand that scale, as in costs are lower when applied to all for some things like health care, makes those benefits fairer and less expensive in the long run.

Flaming Liberals think that government can solve any problem and that isn't true either. They also think that national legislation is right for everyone.

As Mario Cuomo correctly said in 1980, during a Nightline interview, Federal taxation is a complicated issue. $100,000 income in NYC is vastly different than $100,000 in Iowa.

Solving problems need to include everyone not just slices of the population.

We only survive as the greatest democracy on earth, if we realize that society must benefit all of us. Everyone deserves an equal chance, a fair opportunity. If we lose sight of this notion the divide between healthy and unhealthy, wealthy and poor, educated and uneducated will grow wider.

What happens next? Greater economic instability, higher highs and lower lows. Stresses on individuals, families and societal groups grow uncontrolled. Violence increases. Burden on mental health outpaces resources to address the growing challenge. Finally, the great American experiment begun in 1776, and codified in the US Constitution, ceases to be the beacon of humanity.

Politics or elected government is no longer a job of public service but now it is 100% about power, greed and serving the minority.

Remember this when you go to vote November 3. Even more, remember this when you come up with an excuse not to vote.
