The Age of Giant AI Models Is Already Over!

The excitement created by ChatGPT has forced thousands of startups to create projects around Generative AI.

Many of us thought Engineers, Poets and Artists would soon be out of jobs.

If ChatGPT can write better code and poetry than human beings then why go through all the anguish?

Many techies even lost sleep.

Then suddenly Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO gets up in an event and says that the research strategy that birthed the bot?has played out.

The bot which was trained using trillions of words of text and many thousands of powerful computer chips costing over $100 million has reached its limit.

Altman’s statement suggests that GPT-4 could be the last major advance to emerge from OpenAI’s strategy of making the models bigger and feeding them more data.

Which means there is no GPT-5.

GPT-4 is the ultimate version from the OpenAI stable.

It's like holding an iPhone in your hand and realizing there is no further upgrade possible.

So why has ChatGPT reached its limit and no further upgrades possible?

OpenAI says its estimates suggest diminishing returns on scaling up model size.?

That means there is no incentive to move forward.

Other social scientists say its because ChatGPT has impressive memory but no capacity to reason.

This is something that all humans have by nature.

So, you can ask ChatGPT to create a scam email and it will do it. Later on you can chide ChatGPT for doing this and ask it not to perform this task again.

But if you give ChatGPT a task similar to creating a scam email, it doesn't have the reasoning capacity to not perform the task.

While reasoning power is the Achilles Heel of ChatGPT, it doesn't mean people are not going to experiment with Generative AI.

Elon Musk is coming up with TruthGPT, a ChatGPT alternative that acts as a maximum truth-seeking AI that was needed to avoid the destruction of humanity.
