Age ain't nothing but a number....right?

As a history enthusiast, I've often drawn motivation from the past, finding inspiration in the lives of pivotal figures like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. Both men, renowned for their tireless advocacy and fight for social justice, left an indelible mark on the world by the time they were tragically taken from us at the age of 39. As I find myself in my 39th year of life, approaching the milestone of 40 years old next January, I am deeply reflective about legacy and achievement.?

??

The extraordinary accomplishments of these leaders before the age of 40 can be both inspiring and daunting. It's no wonder our society celebrates significant achievements forty under forty awards; such accomplishments are seen as exceptional and noteworthy. Over the past few years, I've had the honor of being recognized as a "40 Under 40" recipient in multiple communities. While this recognition is flattering and affirming, it also makes me ponder what lies beyond this age. Will expectations for growth and success diminish after 40? Is there a societal notion that greatness must be achieved early, or is it too late? Should I have achieved more by this age? Am I doing enough? ?

??

As I contemplate turning 40, I embrace the belief that age is merely a number. This milestone is not an endpoint, but a new chapter filled with potential for continued impact and success. I challenge those under 40 to keep striving for excellence, not allowing age to define or limit their ambitions. Similarly, I urge those over 40 to persist in their pursuit of greatness. Each stage of life offers unique opportunities for achievement and influence. ?

?FUN FACT: Samuel L. Jackson?was 40 years old when he received his first major role in Do the Right Thing (1989).??

In celebrating the journey to 40 and beyond, let us all—both young and seasoned—recognize that the pursuit of excellence knows no age. Our potential for making a significant impact remains boundless.?
