Age 40+ Job Seeker? How You’re Underselling Yourself To Employers

Age 40+ Job Seeker? How You’re Underselling Yourself To Employers

You do this ...

Almost every age 40, 50, 60+ job seeker does it too ...

It's making your job search more difficult, and causing you to lose opportunities when you're qualified.

So why do you keep doing underselling yourself, over and over, while you keep getting the same poor job search results?

You Don't Realize You're Underselling Yourself:?After all, this is what you've been taught to do, by career coaches, outplacement firms, professional resume writers, blog posts, authors, even your friends and mentors. You've been taught to think of your career as a list of responsibilities and experiences. You describe your career as this list of responsibilities and experiences, and your interviews describe responsibilities and experiences also. You're trying to show employers that you're qualified for jobs when you apply, but you don't realize that responsibilities and experiences describe you as an average candidate on an average day.

This would be fine if you were the only qualified candidate. But in 2023, employers expect 5-10 qualified candidates competing for each interview spot, so every resume the hiring manager sees is qualified, making you like everyone else ... average.

Employers Expect Age 40+ Candidates To Be Able To Do More, Because They Expect You'll Cost More:?Regardless of your compensation needs, employers expect job seekers in their 40's 50s, and 60's to demand higher compensation, simply due to higher numbers of annual raises that come with a longer career. Unless you can prove to an employer that you can do more, employers are highly likely to make job offers to less expensive (and younger) candidates.

Underselling Yourself Conflicts With Employer's Need For You To Do More:?You end up appearing overpriced to an employer, and (if you even get it at all) you hear feedback that you're qualified, the employer decided to go a different direction, or found someone who's a better fit. You learn that they hired someone 10, 20, 30 years younger than you (and much less expensive), even though you could run circles around the person who got the offer.

Sound familiar?

What if you could learn how to change this dynamic, to stop underselling yourself, and prove to employers you can do more?

I've taught thousands of age 40, 50, 60+ job seekers how to sell themselves more effectively and prove to employers that they're the top candidate ... and I can show you too.
