Just before the second lockdown I went and picked my boat up from the coast for the long winter layup. It is always a strange time of year in that many seaside towns take on a different persona in the Autumn/Winter and this year with the Covid-19 situation the change was even more marked, with a lot less people around and those that ventured out donning masks.
I took a walk through the beautiful lighted gardens above the town and got that same sad feeling I did before the first lockdown. How long will this one last, what will I be able to do, who will I be able to see and so on. I also found myself thirsty for information as to why this was happening again, one minute we are being told eat out to help out, then we are told we are in a second wave.
I have been listening with interest to people like Carl Heneghan professor of evidenced based medicine who appears to have debunked the evidence provided to us by the government for the lockdown within a few days of publication. He is one of many that say the peak was already flattening before the lockdown and that hospitals capacity is in line with normal seasonal trends, further the death rate is also not showing any excess deaths given the time of year.
I am just a normal Joe, I do not have a PHD in medicine, or any qualifications which allows me to cast any light on the pandemic’s status. I do however note we have just commemorated Remembrance Day reflecting on the hundreds and thousands that gave their lives for our freedom, a freedom that has recently been significantly reduced. We comply to ensure the safety of all, but it would be helpful if the people in the know could be more honest with the real situation, as the old saying goes, “there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
Keep safe everyone
