After You’ve Done All You Can……

After You’ve Done All You Can, Surrender

This isn’t my typical newsletter with anecdotes to help you elevate your standings as an employee.

In this post, I will share an unorthodox perspective to consider in various aspects of your career and life.

What is my unique perspective? When you’ve done all you can do, surrender, and give way to the moment.

When you've tried everything in your power to succeed in your career with minimal success, it's quite normal to feel discouraged.

The act of surrendering means surrendering to a higher wisdom and knowing within rather than trying to achieve a specific result.

My journey to surrendering my career goals.

During my previous business's 10th year, it failed. Indebtedness plagued the business; I had little to no resources to satisfy the debt. I was living in my office, and I had not paid the rent in several months. It was hard to keep the business afloat, given the looming financial obligations and lack of sales. I gave up my office and moved into an apartment I couldn’t afford. One day, the roof in my apartment caved in and water poured into my hallway from the apartment above. I had to move. I lived with a friend, while still working tirelessly to keep things afloat when clearly it was time to call it quits. I had a BIG dream. In that dream, I was living in Atlanta, Georgia, my hometown. I was devastated by the message in that dream. Following a stint on Capitol Hill as a congressional aide, study at the Fashion Institute of Technology here in New York, and establishing a business in New York, I didn’t want to leave New York, the city that I love. One day, while riding the bus, I received this message from on high saying, “what if I am literally saving your life by having you leave New York? That message resonated within me; a great sense of peace came over me.

Hold on; I know. It’s a long story. Hang in there with me for a happy ending.

I moved to Atlanta and lived with my mother, with an obligation to return to New York every other month, to teach starting your own business courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology. During one my trips to New York, I attended a networking event for entrepreneurs. I met someone from the Harlem Business Alliance. ?They offered me a consulting opportunity lasting several months, at $100.00 an hour. ?

I phoned my mother and said, “pack my things and place them in the storage shed.” I’m not coming back to Atlanta. Hooray!!!!

Now aren't you happy you stayed with me for this happy ending.

To manifest your dreams, at times, you must let go of attachments to outcomes and surrender to the moment.

Tinybuddah.com “Surrender equals complete acceptance of what is plus faith that all is well, even without my input. It's not about inaction. It's about acting from that place of surrender energy.”

Surrender is an activity of its own. It’s not giving up, washing your hands, sitting, and doing nothing. It’s a moment to know I’ve done everything I can do in this right now.

I love these stories of surrender from some of my favorite personalities. Steve Harvey, Tyler Perry, and Oprah Winfrey touting the glorious benefits of letting go.

Could you tell me about a time when you surrendered? Does my story resonate with you in any way? I welcome hearing from you.

Thanks Freda L. Thomas, MBA, CPC, ELI-MP, CPRW. Over the years I have learned to surrender to the wisdom of faith in God. It has been a journey to get out of my own way and stop trying to do it all.
