After Working Himself Seriously Sick 3 Times - Here’s What my Client Did to Fix this Pattern!

If you’ve been following this email series for the last few months, then you know we’ve been diving into the three pillars of building True North Radical Resilience!

(There has been a slight pause in the series - due to a huge increase in demand for True North Radical Resilience workshops and consulting services - but - we are committed to continuing - as we know there is an overwhelming need for this material - and I feel called to help as many people as I possibly can!).

Today, I want to talk about Pillar 3 - and the story of someone who desperately needed it!

A few years ago, Bud (which I’ll call him for the sake of privacy!) reached out to me and needed help. Bud is a financial wizard and absolute rockstar in his field.

He has helped financially guide 4 different businesses - from startup to $1 billion in valuation - known as “unicorn status” - which is a rock star kind of thing to do - right?!?

Having said this, Bud is a Type-A, workaholic personality - and he has had a tendency to work himself sick (at various points - developing hypertension, chronic fatigue, and even shingles as he worked himself to the bone!).

Bud thought he was being resilient by “white-knuckling” his way through his day - but in reality, he was undermining his ability to be resilient - and thus - undermining his true potential!

Upon bringing Bud into my office, I realized that he was totally unaware of the impact of his allostatic load.

In case you’ve never heard of this, allostatic load is the build up of “wear and tear” you feel - the accumulation of stress on your mind and body.??

If you aren’t in tune with the signs and symptoms your body and mind are sending you - as you hit/exceed your allostatic load limit - and try to push yourself to work through/past this limit - then you will eventually experience some type of stress related injury/illness!

In working with Bud - I reinforced how important it was for him to pay attention to the signals his mind and body were sending him - and to prioritize time for exercise, a healthy diet, and getting consistent high quality sleep - all habits that would enhance his ability to be Radically Resilient!

Moreover - I taught Bud how to implement active recovery techniques, which allowed him to recharge his batteries and perform at his best (and do this in real time!).

I worked with Bud to help him develop breathing techniques, affirmations, mindfulness, meditation, etc., that were authentic to him (we needed to customize this to Bud - otherwise - they don’t work as effectively - and he’s unlikely to stick with them).?

The idea was simple - we needed to equip Bud with tools, strategies, and resources that would empower him to manage his allostatic load in a way that enabled him to rejuvenate, refocus, and refuel his mind and body - and commit to doing this consistently so his mind and body not only didn’t break down - but were now capable of operating at an even higher level!!


Instead of allowing his body and mind to grind to a halt - Bud was now able to respond to stress by establishing a biology of resilience.



??He learned how to recognize and then neutralize the effects of stress, anxiety, pressure, shame, etc. - and then produce a powerful neurochemical response? - like dopamine, oxytocin, GABA, serotonin, etc. - in order to increase motivation, healing potential, relaxation, sleep and happiness, etc. (equipping him to respond in the most resilient manner in any given moment!).

The best part?

Our program helped Bud realize why his work drained him.?

He realized he didn’t have to say yes to every job, task, opportunity, etc, and take on unnecessary stress (conversely - he identified what work energized him - and committed to doing more of it).

Bud understood that, if he optimized his physiology for resilience - instead of just trying to willpower his way to get more work done - he could become more efficient, effective, and joyful!

Bud realized that he loved to mentor and lead people - so - he decided to build a team of consultants who could do much of the work he used to do - and in doing this - he could help more clients - have more impact - make more money - and have more bandwidth to enjoy his life (which he is doing in abundance now!!).

Within months of going through our True North Radical Resilience program, Bud was a much happier, healthier, and wealthier man!

By helping Bud dial in his unique physiology of resilience and connecting it to his True North - he stopped working himself sick and started thriving.

He’s the healthiest he’s ever been - and yet he’s also more successful than ever (you don’t have to trade one for the other - I promise!).

Bud is now traveling the world - picking up clients all around the globe - having the time of his life (which he never gave himself permission to do before) and helping a growing number of clients and employees experience extraordinary financial success - all because he decided to become the most resilient person in the room.?
