Gosh, what a week. I have traded my slippers for high heels, and out on the road again visiting many of you.?

After returning to recruitment, I'm experiencing a sense of familiarity, almost like I've been here before.

Veterans of the industry will recognize that this current market is nothing new. Having navigated through it once already, both pre, during and post-COVID, it's hard to say which period anyone would prefer.

These market fluctuations are not unfamiliar to me. With over six years in the industry, I began my recruitment journey in a similar landscape, only to witness the abrupt halt caused by COVID.

Emerging from COVID was chaotic. Job listings seemed endless, phones incessantly rang with urgent requests, yet suitable candidates were scarce. Simple roles became difficult to fill, intensifying the pressure to support clients amid their internal challenges. You had to adapt and become a strategic sourcing manager to keep up - regardless of the challenges, it's still our job to find the perfect candidate.

From speaking with clients this week, yes the frantic growth we experienced after COVID has settled, however there still is momentum in the market. Roles are still being backfilled, some companies are even on a conservative growth path, while others are in a holding pattern.?

Many clients now feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume and duration of the recruitment process - finding it time-consuming and sometimes near impossible to get through all the candidates and give them the attention they each deserve. With the influx of hundreds, sometimes thousands of applicants per role, it highlights the necessity for more time effective and thorough recruiting methods, ensuring no stone is left unturned. We're assisting them by leveraging our network, conducting extensive searches, and headhunting to identify the right candidates - but also taking the workload, allowing them to focus on other aspects of their role.?

Reflecting at my desk, I wonder: is there a preferable scenario for a client? Whether it's a candidate-driven market with minimal applicants or an overwhelming one with mass influxes that are hard to keep up with, we do know adaptability is crucial.

While the challenges may seem daunting, there are silver linings for both clients and candidates if we know where to look. If you ever need to brainstorm, explore unconventional ideas, or simply vent, feel free to reach out anytime.?

If recruitment has taught me anything, it's that we need to adapt as quickly as we place.
