After Reading "Nine talking points from CineEurope 2022"- Ryan USIT
It is nice to know the cinema industry treading more after reading "Nine talking points from CineEurope 2022".
1, Studios promise life beyond the blockbuster;
2, The theatrical window is back;
3, The staffing crisis;
4, Dark skies and tough times;
5, Premium formats and premium experiences;
6, Tom Cruise to the rescue?
7, Will 3D return?
8, Sustainability;
9, The elephants in the room.
When I read "5, Premium formats and premium experiences", it is the same feeling coming as "CinemaCon".
When the cinema industry is recovering, it is inevitable to ignore the moviegoers' experiences.
It mentions to me that B&B Theatres CEO Bob Bagby at a recent Boxoffice Pro webinar. “If you don’t have an updated theater with recliners, people just don’t go.”
Obviously, it is too long for us to go to cinemas.
Not only watching, but also enjoying.
We would like to enjoy all the experiences for all senses.
Eyes, ears, nose, mouth, body...
Premium was very much a buzz word of the festival, and never more so than on the panel ‘The Role of Premium Experiences in Cinema’. This panel took a broader view of “premium”, including not just PLF (premium large format), but also luxurious, high-end, bespoke and curated cinema experiences. On a subsequent panel, Steve Knibbs, group managing director and deputy CEO at Vue International, bristled at the word. “Cinema is a premium experience, and I think we do danger by describing certain screens as premium.”
His comment was echoed by Christof Papousek, CFO and co-partner at Vienna-headquartered Cineplexx. “Going to watch a movie in a movie theatre is premium. We have to be premium in all our offerings.”
