After the match: sports teams routine that can be helpful in learning German

Have you ever wondered why sports teams watch the tape of their match after the match? When you think about it, you come to the question: hey, you participated in that match, you were right there for every second of it, so what’s the point of watching it when you lived it? What’s new to see? Right?

Well, there is a lot to see. This is a great method of learning and it was very significant for me when I designed the Lightspeed German Learning program.

We often get caught up in the moment, especially when something important is happening. We are staying focused on our tasks, checking if everything is going as planned and in that process, we often miss some details. Details that can be a valuable learning experience.

The thing with watching a tape of the match after the match is that you are seeing the match objectively for the first time. You see another perspective and you get to see yourself performing. That is why you get recorded classes of group calls within my program.

Exactly like sportsmen are watching every mistake they made, learning how to avoid it next time, you can watch yourself during all the lessons you attended on my program.

You can objectively see, in the context of interacting with a teacher or other students, your performance. How often has the teacher corrected you? What were your usual mistakes? What were the corrections like? You can always remind yourself of these situations and take them as a new way of learning.

And, as you can see your mistakes and analyze what types of situations you are making them, you can also see other students’ mistakes and learn from them.

Focusing on a current task is necessary and I always encourage students to be as focused as they can be, but it also brings the inevitable missing of certain aspects. Watching the lessons you attended can help reveal previously unknown aspects of your speaking skills.
