A fellow alum of the University of the South in a Facebook group called Rebels Rest at Sewanee, invited thoughts on the New Yorker article she posted published JANUARY 12, 2016:

The Far-Right Revival: A Thirty-Year War?

The thoughts I posted follow:

“ If I would assign any value to this selective dot connection it would be found in the last paragraph: "Burghart, his colleague, is bracing for a long struggle about the definition of America. He said, “This question, about who and what we are as a nation in the twenty-first century, is going to be the defining question for millennials and the generation that comes after that. As we go through these demographic changes, that is the question that we are going to face, whether or not we can truly live up to our democratic ideals.” He saw the taking down of the Confederate flag, and the protests it provoked, as merely the first skirmish. “This round was one of the first early battles in a much larger conflict that’s going to go on over the next thirty years.”

Characterizing the definition of America as the core of the long struggle ahead and the defining question for the millennials and the generation that follows crystallizes the strategy that has been followed for decades which has moved from the shadows to the forefront since at least the 1980's. This underscores the critical nature of the traditional true liberal arts education based on a Biblical worldview and an accurate portrayal of our history anchored to a working understanding of the tenets of the Bible and the US Constitution. Once truth has been supplanted by correctness, and history supplanted by opinion, our Constitutional Republic has already imploded and the only remaining question is the length of time until the building collapses. Not if...but when. Once you awaken to this reality, then an urgency arises to move from cursing the darkness to shedding the light.”
