After the Election

After the Election

After the election, half our nation will be thrilled and half depressed. In this time, we need to remember that we are all neighbors. Each of us cares for our families, our communities and our country.

The vast majority of Americans are good people who will help others in distress, regardless of politics, religion,?race or gender. Just look at the tremendous response of volunteers in western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene.

We need to step away from social media telling us that some of us are evil. Instead, go outside into your neighborhood and help each other with the leaves or a fresh batch of cookies or in watching the children. Then, back to work or school, trying to improve our world.

Most other countries in the world are of a single race or ethnicity. The American experiment is that we can come together from all different faiths and races and build a nation of good. We have not realized that dream yet, but are on the difficult journey and need to proceed with resolve and care for each other.

To quote those who founded the UNITED States …

E pluribus union … ‘out of many one’

‘all … are created equal … with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’

Our flag is ‘red, white AND blue’

May we live up to their vision and honor the many sacrifices of those who have gone before to protect and expand this fragile democratic experiment.

Dave, thanks for sharing!

Love this. "The vast majority of Americans are good people who will help others [...] We need to step away from social media [...] Instead, go outside into your neighborhood and help each other"

David, thank you for that post. I wish everyone in the country could read it. I’ve had the opportunity to have frank and open discussions with some passionate Trump supporters and found that in each case, there are important, shared values, and even potential common ground in some policy areas. So, e pluribus unum is possible from a substantive standpoint… If each of us makes the effort for difficult conversations, with compassion.

A timely wise message David.
