After debuting 10 weeks ago, Pride amid Prejudice is still holding at the #1 spot for the best selling memoir.
I am proud to announce that after 10 straight weeks, my book Pride amid Prejudice, published by https://doubledagger.ca is still sitting on the Amazon.ca no# best seller list.
For those of you who have read the book Pride amid Prejudice published by doubledagger.ca and wrote a review on Amazon.ca thank you so much. Your words touched my heart and hopefully convinced someone whose trauma has expired or is about to expire to seek help. Whatever degradation they have suffered is not their fault and I am hoping your words, in conjunction with my story, convince them of this truth.
For those of you who have read the book but not yet found enough time in your calendar to share your thoughts with us, I encourage you to do so. It could be your written words that convince someone that they had no control over the toxic behaviour or toxic environment that they found themselves in. Their shame is not their burden to bear.
For those of you who have not yet purchased the book or borrowed it from a friend who has a copy, I hope you find some time to sit and crack the spine of this book. The CAF and many other institutions are working extremely hard to try to eradicate inappropriate behaviour and sexual misconduct from within its walls. Charlotte Duval-Lantoine, a fellow from the Canadian Global Affairs Institute, had this to say after reading the book:
"CWO Belanger’s memoir is not just a story of resilience and strength. It is also the story of institutional failures. It is easy to say and will sound trite and simplistic, but she should not have had to display such a strength to achieve her most senior position. Even as a Command CWO, she felt unheard and ignored – almost as if the prestige that came with the position could not overcome the fact that she was a woman. And the multiplication of stories she outlines in the book shows that the problem is not contained within a handful of leaders with poor moral fibre. It is the result of an institution that refused to truly change when it was asked to (in 1989 and 1992 particularly). Despite some new policies and increased representation, the system is imbued with biases that reinforce prejudices and encourage ostracism. Focusing on individuals will not be the solution – overhauling the system will."
According to some experts, we will never eradicate inappropriate behaviour and/or sexual misconduct unless we take care of the five things that are killing our culture:
I implore you that when you do have a chance to sit down for a minute or two with my memoir, to keep this list in mind as I explain the mental, physical and emotional/moral cost I paid to so proudly wear that maple leaf on my shoulder.
