After 7 years negative items will automatically fall off of your credit report

This would be great if it were true. Although this should be the case because the statue of limitations is 7 years in most states for collections and bank loans and 10 years for bankruptcy, Creditors often sell your accounts to other collection agencies after they have been reporting for years, now the new creditor who purchased the account will place it on your credit as a new account and start the process all over. This process is known as re-aging an account. This process is illegal and the credit bureaus should not allow creditors to do this, but they have proven that their main focus is what makes them profitable and reporting only accurate information to credit profiles is not a priority to them. Accounts don’t typically fall off after 7 years, so don’t wait around only to be disappointed.
