How does digital document verification really work?

Digital document verification validates the authenticity of an ID document with computer vision tools. But what does that really mean? At Smile ID, we use a combination of Optical Character Recognition (OCR ) to check if the document being presented is valid, verity security features and barcodes on the document and then match the document photo with a user-provided selfie.
