African Solutions to African Problems

In Africa, children are the most vulnerable in their communities, and yet present a possible solution to the African problem. That solution centers on the development of their skills and knowledge so that they are able to create a sustainable change. The formal education through formal institutions has its role to play in that change, however this has proven insufficient. Part of the larger conversation that needs to be driven across Africa is “A man becomes all that he thinks about all day long”. I believe a key part of the solution is placing increased focus on our thoughts, the beliefs behind those thoughts, the value system, and the ethos that guides us on this journey. The African youth lack guidance in defining the key success principles that they need to build and foster within themselves to be the change they direly seek. I would like to play a leading role in redefining the African history, from the current view of weakness and disdain to a view that there is a wealth of learnings, inspiration from our history and that we have all means to chant a purposeful future for Africa. I would like to establish an enterprise that researches, prototypes, executes - leadership, motivation, habit change, success principles for the African youth across the continent. Technical understanding alone through formal institutions is not sufficient, we need to shift the African mindsets, to make them see what we already know about them, “Africa you are the change you need, realize it”.

6 年2 years late ... but still enjoyed this piece. The vision for the African child & Africa as described in the article is valid and is possible. Perhaps a change in mindset can start with a change in the education structure. The current structure is perfect for equipping the African child for a chance in the already stressed labour market - which is acceptable but that's not all we want for the African child right? We need a schooling program that allows for self-actualisation that will produce African children that are more leaders, more thinkers, more finishers ... and a Africa that is capable. At the centre of it all, Africa needs to define success for itself so the African child knows what to strive for.

8 年I enjoyed reading your post, you are quite right, the fundamentals are being neglected. There is a NGO to help boys without fathers called The Character Company. Jaco van Schalkwyk is doing great work with these boys. I currently work at Sparrow Schools and FET college, assisting previously disadvantaged youth skills training. You are welcome to call me on tel: 011 482 1015 to discuss partnership opportunities within Sparrow.
