Ever since i was a kid, i had always imagined myself been a lot of things. from aspiring to be a governor, to been an engineer, before i turned 16 i had changed 10 career goals and counting.
A lot of youths in Africa can testify to this transition during our growing stage as kids to adults, and only a few have actually been able to identify what they want to do and how to go about it. Choosing a career path can be quite challenging and confusing, 50% of youths in Africa are unhappy with their current job and career path because they were told by family and friends that this particular career is the best or the most paid. the interesting twist to this gospel is that though indeed that job actually pays those bills and more, but its quite funny how we still do not have that satisfaction and comfort from doing the things we love, how then do we quantify the success rate of our life goal?
here is a little something to get you started on planning on that big transition in life. its not to late to start doing what you love, you just have to take the step and plot a new course in your career path.
I define Entrepreneurship in my own terms as the process taken for one to identify opportunities in the society and willing himself to setup a business model that will utilize that opportunity in bettering his life and environment.
for me, the first step in African entrepreneurship is identifying an opportunity which i feel is abundant, the world is entering into the fourth industrial revolution, this means that African nations will have to step up their A-game if they are to keep up with the rest of the world. from sustainable energy, to ICT/IT innovations; there are lots still to be done in the African space that will enable our participation in the next generation of industrialization.
truthfully, Africa is actually stepping up in recent time as so much youths are awakening in their efforts to bridging the gaps between African entrepreneurial space compared to the rest of the world.( https://sunnewsonline.com/tech-start-ups-in-nigeria-lead-african-seed-funding/). startups like paystack, piggybank, farmcrowdyng and a host of others across the African continent has moved to become quite successful in their goals of rendering top notch services and products.
so far so good, the future is enticing and promising for aspiring entrepreneurs in Africa, with lot of funds swarming into Africa from foreign organisations and institutions, African entrepreneurs are encouraged not to hold back on their dreams and ideas, but to enter into this great movement ongoing in Africa and setup that next billion dollar venture that will launch Africa into economic development and sustainable growth.
