Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

Understanding the Health Crisis in North-Kivu

?????HUMANITARIAN CONTEXT IN DRC:

  • People in Need: 25.4 million
  • Primary Causes: Protracted conflict in the eastern region, the world's second-largest displacement crisis, epidemics (cholera and measles), and climate shocks (heavy rains and flooding).
  • Latest development: Violence by non-state armed groups targeting civilians in the eastern provinces continues, worsening the humanitarian situation.

???NORTH-KIVU

North-Kivu, severely affected by conflict, hosts over 1.5 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) and is facing a severe health crisis with rising cases of cholera, measles, and malaria. To assist our partners on the ground in understanding the evolving situation and response coverage, our HIST Team, focusing on Health Cluster partners, produced a Situation Report in February (in French).?

?? Fostering Localization Efforts

In line with iMMAP Inc.’s longstanding commitment to foster localization efforts in every country we operate, our team in Ethiopia is assisting the Localization Working Group (WG) to boost the involvement and empowerment of national NGOs (NNGOs). To achieve this, we are identifying areas for improvement to elevate their capabilities. We've evaluated the capacities of NNGOs, gathering insights to understand how local humanitarian actors operate and pinpointing gaps. Based on these insights, the WG is seeking funding to boost the capacities of local and national NGOs.? ? We are also intensifying our capacity building efforts for local actors. Recently, we surveyed that 45% of our training participants are from NNGOs or local government (45%) – and this trend is on the rise.?
