US government shutdown looms
The U.S. is just hours away from a potential government shutdown after the House of Representatives rejected Trump-backed spending deal fails in House.
House Speaker Mike Johnson says he plans to call members back to vote and there will be another vote as he scrambles for a bill that satisfies Democrats and Republicans. If this does not work, millions of federal employees — including TSA officers and active-duty military — could go unpaid or see their paychecks delayed. Others, like much of the IRS workforce, will be sent home. A shutdown could be as short as a few hours or stretch into weeks; the longest was 35 days, back in 2018.
