Affordable healthcare --Why quick fixes alone will not suffice
The current government is proactive in bringing some drastic policy changes.I was one among the people who happily welcomed the demonitisation. Some of these policies may get fine tuned over a period of time according to market reaction and stakeholders feedback.
If there is no deep analysis of the problem before taking final decision, these policies may become just political moves.
The intention behind the stent/ortho consumables is good. But,when we analyse the balance sheet of any transparent healthcare organisation, we can realise that these items do not contribute to the major expenses for the hospitals and patients.
The major expense items include Rentals,Hr cost ,Electricity ,Interest repayments and then comes the consumables cost .Most of these items are not under the control of individual organisation.Policy intervention in these areas will reduce the overall cost to the hospitals and hence the benefit can be passed on to the patients .
I welcome more suggestions from all stakeholders

7 年Other major expenses include Land Aquisition/Delay and "Soft Costs" involved in securing various Statutory Approval which right away increases the capital expenditure burden for any HCO. If government applies fair and transparent principles for above two, then health care cost will come down drastically.
