Affordable Effective Video Monitoring
I got started in the alarm industry in 1968. It has changed a lot! Besides having an alarm company, I owned a third party central station for 27 years. I sold that business in 1999 and have followed the technological advances ever since. Now we find ourselves in an environment where the rules are changing. The police don’t respond in a timely manner (if at all) unless we can verify that the event is an actual burglary in progress.
The industry has tried all sorts of video technology platforms to try to verify alarm events and thus get a timelier response, but the result has been costly and with limited success.
Companies have spent thousands of dollars putting in camera systems but monitoring the systems is cost prohibitive and only large companies can afford to do it. Some of the newer systems have analytics that can trigger events to a monitoring center before the perpetrator even gets in the building, but the false positives (birds, rain, shadows and leaves to mention a few) prevent the method to be effective.
I saw a presentation of a product called U-View that may have solved this problem. It is a camera monitoring platform that allows the customer to send camera events to multiple people, has a chat platform so they can communicate and if they see a problem they can call police directly. In the event that no one responds to the video event the event can roll over to a 24 hour video monitoring service. They currently support HIK and Dawae cameras and NVRs that have advanced analytics that have removed 95% of the false positives.
The flexibility of the platform could open up many affordable opportunities for dealers and end users.. The possibilities are pretty amazing, and I think will bring new life and an affordable cost to video monitoring. Here is a short video that explains it briefly.
