This Affects Your Visibility More Than You Know

There's something that affects your visibility

And so, your ability to create an impact.

That you may not have thought of.

You may, also think you have no control over this thing.

But you do.

Have you ever considered whether...

Your name is good for your business or not?

No, I'm not talking about your business name, I'm talking about your actual name - the name you are known by as a person.

Hear me out.

When journalists & producers are choosing who to feature, they need to know you are credible, they are going to look you up online.

Can they easily find you or are you difficult to find among a load of other people of the same name?

Same goes for potential clients.

People want to know who they are working with and it's going to be a big help if you pop up with your best work, as soon as they Google you.

Also, did you know that journalists & producers are under no obligation to even tell you if your feature has gone live?

Some will, some won't.

The best thing to do about this is to use tracking software to notify you when you are mentioned (Google alerts is free and easy to use).

Of course, the problem with that is that if you have the same name as lots of other people, who are also being mentioned, you could receive hundreds and struggle to find yourself among them!

”OK, Luana ?? I see how this could impact my business but my name is name, I'm not going to change it!”

You don't have to.

All you need to do to fix this, and to make it easier for people to find you is to put some thought into how you write your name and then be consistent with it.

I'll give you an example.

Say your name is David Jones.

Lots of people are called David Jones so you may be difficult to find.

If your middle name is Richard, you could add that which would narrow it down, but there's still likely to be many people of the same name.

So, have some fun with it and play around.

Try-

David R. Jones

Dave Richie

Dave Richard Jones

D.R. Jones

D. Jonesey

You get the picture. Google each variation and see who comes up! It’s best to choose one that is not already used by somebody in the public eye and especially not in the same niche as you.

Another thing is, that if you are like me and have gone down a few different avenues in business over the years, you may be concerned about journalists (and potential clients) being confused about what you do.

Say, for example, if you contact them as a lead generation expert but they Google you and only see you talking about knitting psychodelic willy warmers, it could be perceived as though willy warmers are your thing, and that you are not serious about lead gen.

But if your willy warmer content ranks higher on Google than your newer lead gen stuff, that's what may happen.

So, if you are thinking of pivoting on your main topic, you may want to consider a slight change in how you write your name- not to hide your background (definitely not!), but to make it easier to find your newer work.

If you do want to take your business to the next level and get featured in mainstream media, DM me or e-mail [email protected] to talk about the next steps.
