AFA #64: The Art of Being a Multi-Hyphenate

AFA #64: The Art of Being a Multi-Hyphenate

Happy New Year, Everyone!

I’ve missed writing this newsletter, and after almost a year away, I’m back. Ironically, those who give the most advice often forget to apply the same principles themselves. After countless hours of self-coaching and incredible support from my Accountability Coach, I’m back on track, working towards my future self.

Next week, I’ll share the story of where I’ve been and what I was doing in 2024. Don’t miss AFA #65: Voiceless and Visible—it’ll be a good one! Be sure to subscribe, as I’ll be posting every Monday at 8 PM GMT.

Reflections on Being a Multi-Hyphenate

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of being a panelist at an event called Cured Conversations, where we discussed the challenges and beauty of being a multi-hyphenate. The event, titled "The Grace to Embrace It All," reminded me of an important truth: there are so many people like me—and maybe like you—navigating the complexities of a multi-hyphenate career.

Not long after the panel, I met a fellow Canadian named Valerie through a mutual friend. After sharing my journey—from earning a Political Science and International Relations degree in Ottawa to becoming a Freelance Luxury Consultant in Paris—her eyes lit up. She said, “What you just described is exactly what I want to do, but I’ve never heard of it or met anyone doing it. I didn’t even know it existed.”

The Journey of Multi-Hyphenates

Multi-hyphenates are dreamers, creators, strategists, and leaders—balancing diverse passions while forging paths in creative industries like fashion, beauty, and luxury. It’s exciting and fulfilling, but it can also feel overwhelming.

From answering endless “What exactly do you do?” questions to managing multiple roles and seeking clarity in our careers, we face unique challenges that don’t come with a guidebook.

But here’s the thing: if you’re like Valerie, you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

As someone whose career spans e-commerce, luxury consulting, entrepreneurship, and event management, I know firsthand how rewarding it is to embrace your versatility:

  • Your multi-faceted experiences make you adaptable.
  • Your unique blend of skills creates a niche only YOU can fill.
  • Your global career dreams are within reach—with the right tools and guidance.

I’m so grateful to have designed a career that reflects my passions instead of settling for one by default. It hasn’t been the smoothest or easiest journey, but it has made me incredibly authentic, intentional, and ambitious (not to mention, its allowed me to hit many life goals).

Introducing The Luxe Leap Coaching Program

At first, I was hesitant to launch live courses and group coaching—it requires a lot of time and commitment. But over the last few months, I’ve heard so many people asking for guidance and sharing how helpful my advice has been. It’s clear to me now: this is a need, not an option.

I’m thrilled to announce the relaunch of my live coaching program, now called The Luxe Leap—designed specifically for multi-hyphenates who want to:

  • Build a thriving freelance or consulting career in the luxury industry.
  • Leverage their versatility and passion into a sustainable business.
  • Break into industries like fashion, beauty, or e-commerce with confidence.
  • Gain the tools, mentorship, and community to succeed globally.

What You’ll Learn in The Luxe Leap

  • How to discover your niche and position yourself as a global expert.
  • Strategies to pitch your services to luxury brands and secure high-paying clients.
  • How to design a lifestyle and career that reflects your unique talents and passions.
