Aeroacoustic what?
Perforated metal panels have a history of creating unwanted noise at high wind speeds.

Aeroacoustic what?

With cities and policies moving into the direction of imposing zero net energy targets, architectural design elements such as external shading elements will have to play a larger role in order those targets. And as designs become more bespoke, unwanted side effects may appear, one of which is aeroacoustic noise.

Aeroacoustic noise is created by fluctuations in the flow field (turbulence). Wind chimes are a classical example or side view mirrors of a car. Manchester boasts the infamous Beetham Tower (see clip below) and some other high rise buildings around the world exhibit similar issues.

My colleague Nathaniel Jones and I will be presenting a methodology on how aeroacoustic noise risk can be quantified in both magnitude and frequency at the Building Performance Analysis Conference and SimBuild 2018 in Chicago. Come and join our talk if you are around!
