Aegros @ AATM-AABB – Thank You to All

The joint meeting and congress of the Asian Association of Transfusion Medicine (AATM) and Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) was recently held in New Delhi, India. This was truly academic feast – built around many thought-provoking lectures on scientific, technical, regulatory, and legal aspects of Transfusion Medicine. ?

It was Aegros’ honour to be the Diamond sponsor of this conference. Thank you to all who came to the Aegros Booth to discuss our Haemafrac? technology, and to join with us in a discussion about making plasma derived medicines from local plasma. We were represented by our founders Prof. Hari Nair and John Manusu, and Dr. Ranjeet S Ajmani, Chief Executive Officer-Asia.

Drawing attendees from across South-East Asia, Africa, the Pacific, India, USA, and Europe, delegates visited the Aegros Booth each with an interest in improving access of PDMPs in developing countries. ?

Dr Ranjeet Ajmani delivered a talk during the conference, addressing several critical challenges on the road ahead, including:

• The volume of plasma that is wasted and or destroyed due to a lack of fractionation capability and infrastructure.
• The increasing number of critical medicines that blood plasma can be made into.
• The global unmet need for plasma derived therapies, especially in low- and middle-income countries, and
• The regulatory challenges of donor and patient management, plasma collection, and therapeutic licensing.?

During the conference, Professor Nair also joined an expert panel discussion on the topic of “Should Blood Plasma Donors Be Paid?”. Given the chronic world-wide shortage of plasma medicines this is a defining topic for most nations represented at the AATM-AABB conference. Aegros supports the defining principle at that ALL plasma collected in any country should be able to be manufactured into therapeutic products for that country.

With its modular design and scalable technology, Haemafrac? can operate beyond 1,000,000 litres per annum – yet is also commercially viable at small volumes e.g., 50,000 litres. This unique profile resonated with many delegates, and it underpins Aegros core mission – to ensure that access to plasma medicines becomes a human right and not a privilege.
