AEEE's Contribution to Resilient Agriculture: Highlights from the G20 Agriculture Ministers' Meeting and alignment with priorities

The recently concluded G20 Agriculture Ministers' Meeting held in Hyderabad from 15-17 June 2023 provided a platform for global leaders to deliberate and address key challenges in the agriculture sector. The meeting yielded significant outcomes, emphasizing the collective responsibility of G20 nations in enhancing global food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.??

During this meeting, an outcome document titled "Outcome Document and Chair's Summary," was adopted, which encapsulated the agreed-upon decisions, including two key outcomes:?

  1. Deccan High-Level Principles, demonstrated the G20's commitment to reinforcing and complementing efforts across different regions in response to global food security crises. These principles underscore the importance of collective responsibility in addressing challenges related to food security.?
  2. International Millets and Other Ancient Grains Research Initiative, which aims to explore the potential of millets and other ancient grains in enhancing food security and nutrition. By focusing on these traditional crops, the initiative seeks to promote agricultural diversity and sustainable practices.?

The meeting facilitated deliberations on several pressing issues affecting the agriculture sector. Through constructive discussions, consensus was reached on addressing these challenges collectively. The meeting emphasized the importance of India's approach towards food security and nutrition, guided by the G-20 Indian presidency spirit of "one earth, one family, one future."?

The commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) – ending hunger and attaining food and nutrition security, was reiterated during the meeting. G20 nations recognized the significance of aligning their efforts to ensure food security for all and addressing malnutrition.?

  • Strengthening Cold Chain Infrastructure: AEEE supports the G20 priority of strengthening cold chain infrastructure in rural areas, enabling climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture food systems.?
  • Inclusive Development: AEEE's interventions target small and marginalized farmers, women, and youth, providing additional employment opportunities and promoting inclusive development.?
  • Food Security and Nutrition: AEEE's initiatives target to reduce food loss and generate income opportunities, contributing to food security, hunger alleviation, and improved nutrition in rural areas.?
  • Agricultural Diversity: AEEE supports the shift from conventional grain crops to horticultural crops to enhance agricultural diversity.?
  • Digital Transformation: AEEE emphasizes the development of smart and resilient digital technologies in the post-harvest supply chain and the standardization of agricultural data platforms.?
  • Sustainable Logistics: AEEE accelerates innovations in sustainable logistics for handling perishable produce, facilitating efficient and environmentally friendly transportation.?
