With the acquisition of Ainsworth’s Power Construction ("APC"), Aecon Utilities expanded its electrical services and power systems capabilities. Aecon Utilities and APC are collaboratively engaged as joint venture partners delivering programs to utility and private sector clients to expand electricity distribution infrastructure across Ontario.

The Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has awarded Aecon’s Tristar Electric a contract to deliver lighting and electrical upgrades for its North Runway Modernization Program. Originally opened in 1996, YVR’s North Runway handled nearly 115,000 landings and takeoffs last year and this modernization will ensure its operational resiliency and longevity.
DeltaTec, a Musqueam-owned and operated business, will be a subcontractor to Tristar Electric on this project and we look forward to bringing our specialized expertise to carry out the project safely working with our client and local Indigenous subcontractor.

The Darlington Refurbishment project is now in the home stretch. Unit 1, the third of four units to be refurbished at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, successfully completed its overhaul five months ahead of schedule and will soon be returned to the grid. The 878-megawatt (MW) unit was taken offline for refurbishment in February 2022. Prior to this, Unit 1 ran for more than 1,000 consecutive days, setting a world record for continuous operation of a nuclear power reactor.

The ceremonial groundbreaking of the 120 MW York Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) took place outside Newmarket in October. Joining Capital Power were Aecon’s Eric MacDonald, EVP Utilities, the Hon. Stephen Lecce, Hon. Caroline Mulroney, the Township of Kings’ Mayor Steve Pellegrini and Councilor Avia Eek. The system is expected to be operational in August 2025.
Aecon's Second Narrows Water Supply Tunnel project has received the 2024 Canadian Project of the Year Under $300 Million Award from the Tunnelling Association of Canada. We’re proud to be involved in delivering this major infrastructure project that will help Metro Vancouver continue to deliver high-quality drinking water. We are #AeconProud of our Pacific Electrical Installations team for recently receiving recognition from BC Hydro for their services during a 12-hour planned power outage that impacted approximately 14,000 customers between Kamloops and Valemount. The team carefully coordinated with BC Hydro and their industry partners to replace end-of-life structures safely and within the limited timeline, despite challenging weather conditions and difficult mountain terrain. Congratulations to all crew members for their commendable work during such a large, multi-community outage.
Aecon’s common shares were added to the S&P/TSX Composite Index, effective prior to market open on Monday, December 23, 2024. The S&P/TSX Composite Index is the principal benchmark for Canadian equity markets and includes the largest and most liquid publicly traded companies in Canada.
