This month, an Aecon-led consortium executed a contract with the City of Winnipeg to deliver the Winnipeg North End Sewage Treatment Plant (NEWPCC) Biosolids Facilities Upgrade project under a Progressive Design-Build contract model. The collaborative project begins with a development phase contract valued at $95 million to advance design and finalize the scope and cost of various elements of the project. Upon successful completion of this phase, the implementation phase will begin to finalize the design and execute construction, with substantial completion expected in 2030.

The Site C reservoir?began to be filled this month, following the completion of all necessary construction areas. Filling the reservoir is one of the last steps in building the Site C project and allows the generating?station, spillways, turbines and generators to come into operation. It will take about two to four months to fill the Site C reservoir, with water levels rising between 30 centimetres and three metres per day.?

As part of the AFDE Partnership, Aecon is proud to be involved in the construction of this project's generating station and spillways civil works, which will provide clean energy for nearly 500,000 homes. Congratulations to the entire project team on this milestone!

Aecon?has signed an?agreement to support future Small Modular Reactor (SMR) deployment in the United Kingdom. Under the MOU, Aecon will support GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy as it continues to progress through the Great British Nuclear SMR selection competition.

On Montreal’s Reseau express?métropolitain (REM)?project, dynamic testing of trains has started in the West Island. This is an important step towards REM commissioning and providing improved mobility for West Island residents. Congratulations to all our teams and partners on the project for reaching this milestone!

Working in unison with Indigenous Peoples and communities and collaboratively seeking meaningful ways to engage in reconciliation is a pivotal priority at Aecon.?On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and during the week leading up, Aecon hosted and participated in several activities?and events, including:

  • Members of?Aecon’s executive leadership team visited the Mohawk Institute and Woodland Cultural Centre on Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Joining them were Mohawk Institute survivors who offered personal stories from their time as students at the school. We are pleased to continue supporting through a contribution benefiting the centre's important work in honouring Residential School survivors and celebrating Indigenous cultures, languages, histories, art, and values.
  • On September 30,?Jennifer Campeau, Vice President of Indigenous Relations,?spoke?to Aecon employees?about her experience?as an attendee of?Muscowequan Indian Residential School.?

Always good to see AECON expanding in the US and Canada. And on a sensitive note, I’m also glad that a platform was given for AECON personnel to share about their experiences growing up in residential schools. Must have focused steps forward and never backward as a nation from those experiences.
