Advocating for Change & Progress
Madanyat for equality
Madanyat is a Lebanese NGO, aiming to increase women and youth’s participation in public and political life.
As the situation in Lebanon began to deteriorate seriously towards the end of September, our team found itself in constant reflection on the future of our work and activities. How do we continue our current programs? How can we adapt the new initiatives we had planned? Are they still relevant in light of the unprecedented humanitarian crisis we are experiencing, and given the risks to the safety of our team and participants? Through ongoing conversations with each other and our partners—along with the continued requests of our participants—we decided to carry on with our efforts. We are maintaining our support in capacity building, organizing listening groups, and, of course, taking all necessary precautions to ensure everyone’s safety. Continuing to learn, preparing ourselves morally, and equipping ourselves with the tools needed for the reconstruction of our country—a moment that we firmly believe will come—is our way of resisting destructive forces and working together toward a more resilient future for Lebanon.
Her Civic Quest Launches
Despite recent challenges, "Her Civic Quest" initiative, carried out by Madanyat as part of the Women’s Participation in Leadership project, led by UNDP and UN Women with support from the Government of Canada, brought together dedicated young women from Saint Joseph University - USJ, inspired by civic engagement and leadership. Recognizing the need for adaptability, Madanyat implemented a flexible hybrid attendance format, enabling students to choose the mode of participation that best suited them.? An increasing number of participants joined in person at USJ’s Mansourieh campus or connected online, allowing students from other institutions to participate as well, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for all.
On November 2, the journey began with an impactful session on Leadership and Negotiation Skills—critical tools for shaping Lebanon’s future. We were thrilled to see 30 young women join us in person and 25 connect online. Their commitment, even in these difficult times, reflects a strong drive to develop the skills needed to lead and serve their communities. "Her Civic Quest" has become more than just a program; it is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the power of youth-driven change.
Supporting Women Leadership Groups?
Through our ongoing partnership with LADE, in the framework of the Supporting Women In Leadership project, funded by UNDP, three impactful online training sessions have been held for women in Bourj Hammoud. These sessions—focused on Gender Justice, Leadership, and Citizenship—tackle essential themes that empower women, especially in times of crisis. Each session has seen the enthusiastic participation of 30 women from this area, eager to deepen their skills and knowledge. Their excitement for future in-person gatherings speaks to the resilience and determination of women leaders across Lebanon.

?Call For Civil Society?
Madanyat, alongside a coalition of active civil society organizations in Lebanon, stands united to address the grave challenges facing our country, by participating in a call to action. Amidst the current crisis, we raise our voices to highlight blatant violations of international humanitarian law, which ignore the Geneva Conventions and protocols designed to protect civilians, peacekeepers, first responders, and journalists in times of war.Furthermore, we emphasize the critical importance of United Nations Resolutions, such as Resolution 1701, which calls for a permanent ceasefire and outlines measures to safeguard Lebanon's sovereignty and civilian population. Upholding these resolutions is essential for restoring peace and stability.
Solidarity Among Women in Times of War
Madanyat has organized, in cooperation with a professional coach, Ms. Marie Skaff, who offered online well-being sessions for its participants from all regions, to cope with challenging times. These sessions have provided a safe space for women to focus on mental health, resilience, and personal well-being. Mental health support remains an ongoing need, especially in times of war, and this initiative fosters a network of solidarity and strength. Finding strength in shared experiences, and supporting one another is essential through every challenge our country faces.
