Advocate for Yourself - You Deserve It!

Advocate for Yourself - You Deserve It!

Ever find yourself hesitating to speak up for what you need? Whether it’s in the boardroom, on a flight, or in life—advocating for yourself isn’t just important, it’s necessary.

Here’s how you can start today:

1. Recognize Your Self-Worth ?

  • Your skills, experience, and perspective are valuable. Period.
  • Keep a running list of your wins—big and small. That time you led a high stakes meeting? Nailed it. The moment you turned a challenge into an opportunity? Own it.
  • Confidence isn’t about waiting until you feel ready—it’s about stepping up even while you’re still building that self-confidence.

2. Maintain Healthy Boundaries ??

  • You teach people how to treat you by the boundaries you set.
  • Saying “no” isn’t negative—it’s necessary. Try: “I’d love to help, but I can’t commit to that right now.”
  • Protect your time, energy, and focus like the precious resources they are.

3. Build a Support System ??

  • No one succeeds alone. Surround yourself with people who lift you up.
  • Find mentors, allies, and champions who remind you of your worth when you forget.
  • Be that person for someone else, too.

A Quick Story: ???? I recently had a whirlwind 24-hour travel saga to Puerto Rico—equipment failures, weather delays, and all the chaos that comes with it. I could’ve accepted every roadblock, but instead, I advocated for myself. I asked for updates, pushed for solutions, and made sure my voice was heard. The result? I got where I needed to be (eventually) on my terms. The lesson? No one will fight for you harder than YOU.

Before You Go: A Challenge ??

Take a few minutes today to list out your professional milestones. Keep them visible—on a sticky note, in your phone, wherever you’ll see them. When doubt creeps in, let your own success remind you of what you’re capable of.

My door is always open. If you need support advocating for yourself, let’s talk: Schedule a Coffee or Tea Chat with Me ???
