Advocacy, engagement, collaboration

Advocacy, engagement, collaboration

We hosted our National Credit Union Roundtable earlier this week, where each session provided not only an opportunity for America’s Credit Unions to share updates, but for us to hear from our members about what they need from us so they can best serve their members and communities. ?

Topics covered included:?

  • The future of credit union advocacy, including how to remain on offense when sharing the credit union difference;?
  • How credit unions can continue to disrupt the financial services industry to benefit current and future members; and ?
  • How data and emerging technologies such as AI present a world of new opportunities–and new challenges. ??

The leadership team and I emphasized this at the roundtable, and I’ll say it here: your continued input and collaboration is how we’ll ensure America’s Credit Unions successfully serves you. ?

America’s Credit Unions is built on the principle of cooperation among cooperatives and direct discussions like ones held earlier this week are how we keep credit unions competitive. Thank you to all who took the time to listen and share your thoughts.?

Carrie encouraged the NCUA Board to further evaluate the legal and reputational risks credit unions may face if this information is released.

Supporting bipartisan examination fairness bill

We support legislation from Reps. French Hill, R-Ark., and David Scott, D-Ga., that would allow financial institutions to seek prompt, independent reviews after a regulatory examination. This legislation would increase consistency and fairness in examinations, ultimately enhancing safety and soundness. We suggested a different approach to funding the bill’s Office of Independent Examination Review in our letter sent this week, we believe a proportional split of the office’s operation costs would better reflect how credit unions are generally less complex thank banks.

Relentless advocacy to advance, empower, and protect credit unions:

  • We joined organizations urging the Federal Communications Commission to reject a request to extend the required automated opt-out mechanism to those made to cell phones.?
  • All 14 candidates we supported in Pennsylvania primaries won Tuesday , including strong credit union champion Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa..
