Advocacy, Education & Communication Since 2003

World Ocean Observatory has been delivering dynamic educational resources for learning about climate and ocean through a free, globally-accessible network since 2003.

ADVOCACY

World Ocean Observatory (W2O) has entered a third decade of stewardship to ocean and climate systems. Through a network of collaboration, public connection, and free educational resources about climate and ocean, we remain committed to providing information and educational resources, supporting the next generation of ocean literate citizens worldwide who will work to promote, conserve and protect natural and marine resources for our collective future.

EDUCATION

Our innovative, imaginative, and educational offerings are successful vehicles to democratize science education and scientific discovery. We are contributing to the education of the next generation of ocean stewards, leaders, scientists, educators, and exemplars working for the future of the one world ocean, bridging the gap between scientific discovery and the larger community of concerned citizens worldwide.

COMMUNICATION

OUR STRATEGIES FOR THE FUTURE ARE TO:

1. Communicate globally through multiple outlets

2. Use the efficiency of partnerships and existing structures

3. Reach a diverse audience, locally and globally

4. Affect the inter-generational transfer of knowledge

5. Remain science-based and humanities-driven

6. Promote civil discourse, peace, and security on the ocean.

I work on average 12-15 days a month underwater in the last of Giant kelp forests of California. I have been raised out there since birth. Point being an underwater gps capable drone/s can create a streaming video/data service of the kelp forest changes over time ( I have been diving same reefs/kelp forest areas for my father’s and my lifetimes. I google maps of ever diminishing kelp forest perimeter in conjunction with aerial photos of traditional kelp forest areas would convey scope and severity well. Like monitoring a patient in hospital, up to date status of bottom can be obtained thru me, new videos for archive weekly as I harvest Red Sea urchin in Channel Islands National Park.
