The arrival of the Great Resignation

The Great Resignation is an idea proposed by Professor Anthony Klotz that predicts many people leaving their jobs after the COVID pandemic ends and life returns to "normal." French philosopher Michel Foucault argued that by establishing what is and is not "normal," we exert a kind of power by making people behave a certain way. If working from home becomes the new normal, we must be careful that it doesn't give way to a new lifestyle that we hate even more than the office.

Yes, the new normal has made us spend time with our families and has made us realize what "NORMAL" actually is. We have had more time for self-reflection, hobbies, children, and our society. Of all, the concept of a nine-to-five office job was not created just to suit the wild desires of some villain. It arose from the belief that this was the most efficient and productive way to operate.

People require direct human touch, and it's often faster and more productive to speak with a coworker next to you or stroll across the office to seek assistance. Although Zoom, a remote-working software, is convenient, can a corporation honestly claim that it is as efficient as working in an office?

I would advise you to please not quit your job unless you have something else already lined up. It's too risky. Without a job, you have less negotiating power. For instance, without a current job, you can't leverage the possibility of a counteroffer to gain a higher salary. You could be out of work for three to six months—or longer. When you interview, hiring managers will question your judgment. Recruiters will be concerned that you are too impulsive and may leave their company over some minor trivial matter as well. When you start looking for a new job, they'll ask why you left. What can you say?

The great resignation may indeed alter people's career choices as people might prefer to work from home and startup instead of being employed. The best advice during Covid-19 is that the disease has paved the path for many products/services and online businesses in general. The self-employment option is safer and has more chances of growth in society in the present times.
