Advice for New Truck Drivers!
Trucking is a challenging and rewarding career that requires dedication, skill, and a willingness to work hard. As a trucker, you have the opportunity to see the country, meet new people, and earn a good living. However, there are some things I wish I had known before I started trucking across all 48 states.
One of the most important pieces of advice I can offer is to plan your route ahead of time. Before you start driving, take some time to map out your route and identify potential hazards, such as steep grades, narrow roads, or low clearances. Knowing your route ahead of time can help you avoid unnecessary delays and keep you safe on the road.
Trucking is a demanding job that requires long hours on the road. It's essential to get plenty of rest to stay alert and focused while driving. Make sure to take breaks when you need them, and don't be afraid to take a nap if you're feeling tired. Your safety and the safety of others on the road depend on it.
Your truck is your most important tool on the road. Invest in good equipment, including a reliable truck, a comfortable seat, and high-quality tires. Regular maintenance is also essential to keep your truck in top condition and avoid breakdowns on the road.

Time management is critical in the trucking industry. You need to be able to plan your routes efficiently, estimate your travel times accurately, and manage your schedule effectively. Make sure to take advantage of technology, such as GPS systems and electronic logbooks, to help you stay on track.
Trucking can be a lonely job, especially if you're away from home for long periods. It's essential to stay connected with your family and friends to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Make time for phone calls, video chats, and other forms of communication to stay connected with loved ones while on the road.
In final closing thoughts, trucking across all 48 states can be a rewarding experience, but it's important to be prepared. By planning your route, getting plenty of rest, investing in good equipment, learning how to manage your time, and staying connected with family and friends, you can have a successful and fulfilling career as a trucker. Remember to always prioritize safety and stay focused on the road.

Seeing the country is something I overestimated. I drove past a lot of cool places, but couldn't stop.

1 年I agree but the route planning is not done unless you heavy hauling or pulling hazmat. GPS has made some drivers lazy and I’m one of them. I look at my route on the table, check where I want to stop, put my restrictions in and go. I still have an Atlas for back up.
