Advice

Last night I sat on a Wright Fund Alumni Panel. Talk about full circle — I planned the same event this time last year. It was interesting to recall where my head was a year ago. It was also neat to see what other Wright Fund alums have been up to.

The reason why I chose to focus my MBA experience on Finance was to prove to myself that I am good with numbers. Everyday all day, we have an inner dialogue that incessantly chatters on and on — from the moment we wake even until it’s time to go to bed (and sometimes that chatter keeps us up at night!). My inner dialogue has always doubted my abilities, especially when it comes to numbers. However, I am a firm believer in the power of education — I may not know it, but I can certainly learn. Of this, I am certain.

The final question was, “Will you please give us advice?” Everyone gave good advice (Read the classics. Be humble. Never stop learning. Cultivate relationships.) I wanted to share with you the advice I gave —

1) DON’T BE SO BUSY MAKING A LIVING THAT YOU FORGET TO MAKE A LIFE.

2) NEVER CONFUSE WHO YOU ARE WITH WHAT YOU DO.

3) YOUR POWER LIES IN YOUR FOCUS. AT ANY MOMENT, YOU CAN CHOOSE TO CHANGE YOUR STORY. I’M CURRENTLY READING, “ARE YOU READY TO SUCCEED?” THE AUTHOR TALKS ABOUT HOW THIS IS A REALITY, BUT WE THINK THAT IT IS THE REALITY.

4) PRACTICE SELF-CARE. YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE DREAMS AND AMBITION IN THE WORLD, BUT IF YOU HAVE A MASSIVE HEART ATTACK, WHAT GOOD IS IT?

5) ESTABLISH A PRACTICE OF GRATITUDE.

6) FIND WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP.

It was so great to catch up with old friends and to meet new ones. Blessings to all!

Science! Although we only shard one or two brief meetings at Universal Latino (I was West Coast), I appreciate the connection and wisdom!
