This Advice is Hurting You!

One of the greatest superpowers that I have developed over my lifetime is my sense of urgency and absolute dedication and commitment to learning, growing, and getting better. I believe this originated from an overwhelming sense of worthlessness growing up; I never felt good enough, smart enough, or capable to shine or excel in anything, yet always having this feeling that there was so much more out there for me, and that I was capable of more.
I would always ask questions to the people around me and to my partners; how can I get better, how can I do this, or that, how do I get them to like me, why don’t I like myself? These questions, although incredible, were being asked to the wrong people, and it wasn’t until the right people ventured into my life that I even realized it.
Something I learned, albeit the hard way, is that it isn’t just about what questions you’re asking (if any) but who you are asking them to, because asking the right questions to the wrong people will veer you off into a direction you were never supposed to head to, with questions you never should have known.
The answers I got from those original people were flawed, and misguided because of the individuals’ beliefs, the standards they held themselves to, and where they were in their lives. The thing is, they weren’t bad people, but they were the wrong people to take advice and feedback from based on the conditions of their lives.
What I’ve had to learn, the hard way, is that the only people who can give you advice that will serve you, and that is not from fear or their own self-limiting beliefs, are those who have already achieved what it is you want, or are much farther along in their journey and have gained the insight and knowledge into how to guide you, and answer questions they most likely had and have already answered for themselves.
This is what’s tricky, because many people are successful, and may want to impart their wisdom onto you. And although this can be a gift, in most cases this will only hurt you because they may not know your exact goals, dreams, destination, or your journey, and the insights they give could lead you down the wrong path.
Take advice from those who have what you want in the arena you want, and dismiss everything else.
