Advice from Google: cold emailing your idol
Whether you're an established professional or just starting to learn, it's a smart bet to seize every opportunity to learn from the best. One way to do just that: cold emailing someone you deeply admire.
Liz Wessel is the CEO and cofounder of WayUp, a site that helps students find jobs at the biggest names in Silicon Valley.
She cold-emailed an idol of hers while in college, and the advice she received led her to accept an offer to work at Google. When she went on to found her company at the age of 24, she reached out to craft-masters for advice, and helped herself and her company grow. In her words:
'Be a master at your craft,
but know you're not the master.'
So go ahead and send that email to Elon Musk or Lady gaga, whoever your idol may be. I'm going to email Lea Verou. :)
