Advertising Nerd Loves Yellowstone

Thank you, Paramount Network. Thank you, Kevin Costner and all the creative minds behind this show. There are some obvious reasons to love this show- I work for a Country Radio station and this series plays Country music throughout the show and highlights artists- LOVE THAT! The scenery out west is spectacular- during a time where leisure travel has been trimmed back- this makes me happy to see and absorb through my eyes. The fashion- the boots and up styled rugged wear-yes please. Fierey characters to cheer for or wish you could be (hello Beth Dutton). I have been enjoying all of it. And then Season 4 blew my advertising nerd mind with delight!

I am obsessed with all things marketing, the look of a cool logo or sleek packaging. One of the "holy grail" ad moments for media is integration. When you can embed your product and or company into the content and it makes sense- it's not a disruption. A lot of advertising is disruption. Not a bad thing- it just is. Watching a TV show, they stop the show for a commercial. Commercials are helpful, but still a disruption to the content.

Paramount and Yellowstone have found a brilliant way to reduce the disruption to the programming and still show you commercials. I encourage you to watch Season 4 to see what I am talking about but here are some of the highlights-

Actors in the show are featured in client commercials - show's connection and implied endorsement.

Client commercials align with the lifestyle- Boots, Trucks, Beer.

Adding in a short musical performance, sponsored by a snack company. The artist was able to showcase her talents & promote her songs in a way that looked like a part of the show.

Creating a campaign that feels so much like the content you don't even notice- brilliant. I strive every day to create these perfect moments for my clients and partners. Grateful we have music, sports, sports teams, athletes, artists and local brand ambassadors to create things like that here in Boston. Thank you to Paramount for setting a new standard to strive for in 2022!

Addicted, but a few episodes behind this season. Think hamburger helper sales are up right now?
