IS ADVERTISING ART?

There is a myriad of ad industry chat threads that debate whether advertising is art. The sides divide between advertising people who claim what we do is an art form and those who state advertising is supposed to sell things and artistry isn't that important.?

Art is an artist's creative expression with infinite valid interpretations. The individual may see the artwork in a completely different way than others, and it still is successful.

Advertising art is a creative expression that only succeeds if everyone sees it the same way. This makes creating successful advertising?art?much more difficult than fine art.?

When someone dismisses advertising art as less than a creative endeavor, they miss an important need for the ad to succeed.

Iconic brands share the common trait of art as a component of storytelling. To demean advertising's artistry lowers our standard and commitment to the success of the brands we serve and their consumers.

JMO. I think there can be art in advertising like there can be art in a lot of things. But vice versa, there’s not art in everything including advertising.
