Advertisers rush to release new ads before June 18; Advised to not issue new ads without SDC between June 18 and July 9

Given the complexities and practical challenges highlighted by various ad and media industry stakeholders in implementing the self-declaration certificate mechanism, industry bodies have asked the MIB to postpone the process until there is clarity from SC and concerns are addressed by authorities.

The SC had issued a directive in its order on SDC on May 7, 2024. Following which, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) introduced a new feature on the Broadcast Seva Portal for TV and Radio Advertisements and on the Press Council of India’s portal for Print and Digital/Internet Advertisements. The certificate, signed by an authorised representative of the advertiser/advertising agency, needs to be submitted through these portals.

Volkswagen's marathon global media review ends; Omnicom holds on to business

German auto giant Volkswagen had called for a review of its global media planning and buying account. After a lengthy review, VW has chosen to retain Omnicom Group. The ad holding company holds on to the automaker’s worldwide business, which includes VW, Audi and ?koda. As per reports, Omnicom's media investments firm PHD will support the business under a new operating model that draws resources from across Omnicom Media Group.

Media spends in India are in the range of Rs150-180 crore.

Soaring temperatures across large swaths of the country have yet again brought cheer to beer brands as tipplers guzzle on their favourite summer drink to beat the heat. But in the national capital, that froth of euphoria is tempered by a hugely insufficient number of outlets, inadequate chiller penetration and stringent excise policy.

According to industry sources, beer sales in Delhi actually fell 2.25 percent on a sequential basis in April this year. The city sold 70,101 hectolitres (hl) of beer in April against 75,340 hl in March 2024. On the other hand, beer sales in South Indian states, as well as in central and western India, remained at peak levels.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a draft policy for hoardings in Mumbai that includes advertisements on skywalks, balloons, stationary vehicles, and business premises, according to a report by Times of India. Mumbai's civic body has also suggested fixing the minimum distance between two large hoardings to 70 metre. For stationary vehicles, BMC has proposed the minimum distance from any other advertisement material to 30 metre and for skywalks and foot over-bridges 10ft, the English daily reported.

The crackdown on outdoor advertising, especially ad hoardings, comes in the wake of the 100-foot giant hoarding crash in Maharashtra's capital Mumbai, which killed 17 people and injured many others.

'Illegal' IPL streaming case: ED conducts searches at Fairplay app offices, seizes assets worth Rs 8 cr

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently carried out searches at 19 locations in Mumbai and Pune as part of the ongoing probe against the "Fairplay" app - a subsidiary of the Mahadev Betting app, according to media reports. The app is allegedly involved in illegal broadcasting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and other betting activities, including the Lok Sabha election result in 2024.

The Mumbai unit of the ED has confiscated cash, bank funds, Demat account holdings, and luxury watches, worth Rs 8 crore.
