Adversity Quotient (AQ) - An Analogy & Perspective

I love speaking & presenting motivational stories/leadership topics inspiring others. My favorite topics were Adversity Quotient (AQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ), 7 Effective Habits, Magic of Thinking Big, Law Of Attraction etc.. I feel like an Evangelist as it gets me motivated a lot to motivate others in life. My Dad is my first role model & my elder brother Siva is best influencer who guided me since childhood as we both grew up in hostel most of schooling away from parents who stayed abroad and so we had to be over-independent/downside is being less emotional or attached. I been sharing Daily Drips Motivational Feeds for almost decade now & few articles like this. Below post is about AQ Analogy & its' few Perspectives; it will be useful during any adverse Situations.

Adversity Quotient (AQ) is one’s ability to handle adversity/stress levels, with higher AQ level you can turn obstacles to opportunities with Courage. Great Leaders have Higher AQ and they face ground reality bravely and tackle any situations very well; with low AQ you will be ruffled/carried away easily by any situation and are very emotional and yield easily.

In life many a times you don't see any lights in your tunnel; but you keep on pursuing non-stop in your path you will see some light and will succeed surely. Sometimes you don't get all your Answers/ Solutions for all your problem immediately; but you keep striving hard you will always come out with flying colors; Never Quit in life. Every Mt.Summit is in your reach if you keep climbing.

I seen this personally in my life when you are trying to solve a problem you don’t find any clues initially; but you keep on trying relentlessly without giving up until you get the good solution; how many times you had spoken to your inner-self that I will find solution now & by nature law of attraction you succeed; So In reality its just a positive mindset and it could be minute horse hairline win difference between Winner (Climber) and a Camper/Quitter; SO ALL ARE/CAN BE CLIMBERS!

Everyone faces crisis, rejections/failures in life (peaks/troughs); In my mid-career I also faced an adversity; developed bad medical condition and my quality of life was worsened just because of my positive mindsets/attitude I overcome it many years back to come back in a successful path. It really helps being a super positive person (always like as if you were with some Stimulants:); Even the Surgeons who operated me used to tell they felt good to operate and cure a much motivated person like me as it helps in the quick healing process.

As per John Stoltz’s Adversity Quotient theory, each of us can train our capacity to get things done in the face of continuous change, and respond positively to crisis, rejection and failures.

I love to explain AQ Levels correlating it with Mountaineering/Tree Analogy with pics portrayed to my Team/friends & kids. We can Split AQ into below main levels:-

  1. AQ LOW=Quitters (Leafs/Twigs)
  2. AQ MEDIUM=Campers (Branches/Trunks)
  3. AQ HIGH= Climbers (Roots)

1) QUITTERS are those who quit in basement of the smallest hill or valley even before even starting mountain climbing;

Quitters wither off like dry LEAVES/TWIGS in a tree with smallest ruffle of wind. So Quitters easily quit are quiet contended wherever they are in the base/valley/even deep under water:); they are in their own comfort zone. Quitters Adversity Quotient (AQ) level is lowest as they give up with minutest crisis/failures in their life and never grow up in career or stagnant or stuck in one place always, they don't dream big.

2) CAMPERS keep trying a bit; but they give up after seeing the daunting height in successive camps towards peak summit.

Campers are like BRANCHES/TRUNKS respectively depend on the level of camps towards summit give up with strong storm/hurricane/tornadoes/Avalanche. As they lose interest to climb towards the peak summit and take a detour or happy camping/settled in their own camps.Campers AQ level is medium they give up with tough conditions/situations/crisis.

3) CLIMBERS are Die Hard/Resilient type/always with super positive mind-sets and are always constantly moving towards the peak summit & enjoy their entire journey towards highest peak; Climbers are kind of street smart able to adapt to any environment and survive anywhere in harsh conditions/situations e.g. extreme climate/less oxygen/risky dangerous.

Climbers are like trees deep ROOTS who have great Values in them; they never give up in any calamity, Super storms or hurricanes. Roots always keeps spreading/growing deep in search of resources/ nutrients and gives a strong base for entire tree.

Climbers AQ level is maximum as they never give up with any deep crisis/irrecoverable failures in their life and grow up well in their career as they are focused towards life goals i.e. Peak/Summit.

To Conclude I love above quote I posted in my yesterday’s motivational feed from Barry Finlay; Also like the song “when the Going gets tough; the Tough gets going”. We must never give up in our life; be with a Die-hard attitude and keep trying relentlessly to move towards your Life goals; it doesn’t matter how much small steps you move towards the summit even inch-stones but you need to keep on moving constantly and then you will meet your milestones and could conquer the earths highest mount Everest Peak K2; if you are ambitious even you could also reach Mt.Olympus in Mars that is 3 times taller than K2 and conquer it.

Find and improve hidden AQ levels & the infinite potential in you to succeed in your life. Please Feel free to Post your feedback on this thread on AQ related to Leadership. Enjoy below quotes as well..
